Draw and reshape a pond

Choose a layer

Select the layer in Layers and depths before drawing. Its depth determines where that outline sits below the waterline.

The arrow tool selects and drags. The hand tool moves pond outlines; the Selected layer / All layers switch controls which outlines move together.

Draw a shape

Choose the circle, square or rectangle tool. Press and drag across the canvas, then release.

Overwrite replaces the selected layer's outline. With Add enabled, draw an overlapping shape to extend it. For a figure-eight outline, draw one circle, switch to Add, then draw a second circle overlapping the first. Separate islands are not a single pond outline.

Use Undo to reverse the change or Redo to restore it. These controls remain above the plan when Drawing is collapsed or hidden. Clear removes pond outlines and can be undone.

Adjust points

Choose the arrow tool and drag an outline point. For more control, open Shape and measurements, then Edit points.

• Insert point adds a handle along an edge.
• Remove point removes a handle from the outline.
• Move edge lets you drag a straight edge and move its two endpoints together. Release to save the change.

For an exact edge move, choose Move edge and tap the edge. Enter Offset (+ outward), choose Inches or Centimeters, and inspect the preview. A positive offset moves the edge outward; a negative offset moves it inward. Choose Apply offset to save. Escape cancels the preview.

If an edit is refused, read the message beside the tool. Crossing edges or collapsing an outline can make the pond invalid.

Use the grid

Open View. Show grid controls its visibility; Snap to grid controls whether edits snap. Choose Inches or Centimeters and enter Grid spacing.

At a distant zoom level, the app may show fewer grid lines. The grid label reports the displayed spacing and the actual snap spacing.

Move around the plan

On a touch screen, use a two-finger slide to move the background view. Use a pinch to zoom. The gesture chooses pan or zoom so sliding does not also change the zoom.

To move the pond over the background, use the hand tool. Set All layers to keep its outlines together. Return to the arrow tool to select components or reshape points.
